What can CT scan? How? -Vet Medical Equipment

In addition to DR and ultrasound, CT can also help veterinarians determine a pet's condition. What is CT? How does it work? What does it do? Read on.

CT (Computed Tomography), or X-ray computed tomography, is another leap forward on top of X-ray imaging. CT is an important milestone in the history of radiology.
CT scan

CT scan working principle: The basic principle of CT imaging is to scan a certain thickness level of the animal examination site with an X-ray beam. The X-rays through the level are received by the detector, transformed into visible light, and then converted into electrical signals by a photoelectric converter. This is then converted into a digital signal by an analog-to-digital converter. It is fed into the computer for complex processing and finally converted into the form of an image.

The CT scan is equivalent to a dynamic all-round DR. but its diagnostic role is far greater than the basic DR. CT examination is good for the diagnosis of intracranial tumors, abscesses and granulomas, traumatic hematomas and brain injuries from parasitic diseases, cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage, as well as intravertebral tumors and disc prolapse. the CT diagnosis is more reliable.

The hospital has high requirements for the use of CT equipment, which must be far away from residential areas and requires the establishment of a radiation-proof closed environment because of the constant radiation emitted during operation.

When the machine is working, pets need to be anesthetized and kept still, otherwise the quality of imaging will be affected, and pet owners are not allowed to enter the workroom to accompany them (high radiation exposure).

The CT exam does not take particularly long to scan an area, and the scan is usually finished in about 10 minutes after the pose is completed.
